Two finalists in Think-Off from state | The Fergus Falls Daily Journal:

Four finalists were chosen for the Great American Think-Off and will debate this year’s question, “Which is more ethical: sticking to principle or being willing to compromise?”

David Lapakko is an associate professor of communication studies at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, where he teaches courses in argumentation, persuasion, intercultural communication, organizational communication, and public speaking. He also teaches a communication ethics course in Augsburg’s master of arts in leadership program.

How much do you know about your neighborhood’s history? This week, take time to uncover the secrets of the town or city you call home. Find out who that park is named after and who else roamed the halls of the high school. Finally stop to read the plaque on the side of that building you walk by every day. Start with your local library, search Google and Wikipedia, check in with your local historical society, or slide up and bend the ear of the bartender serving cocktails at your local dive. You can come away with a more solid sense of place with what you learn about your local history and may just be inspired by those who have come before you.

This is my second Augsburg College coffee mug.

My first suffered a broken handle during the clean-up from a prank involving a lot of Jell-o here at Ciceron HQ:

I was super bummed.

As fate would have it (and thx to Twitter) a new coffee mug was mailed to me — and with a few extras! An Auggie t-shirt, some can cozies and a bacon tie! So, it looks like I’m still an honorary Auggie even though my mug broke. This is a good thing.

Now I need a fried egg sport jacket to go with my tie.

Mari Kvien Brunvoll strings together a set of ice chimes on February 24, 2013, in the 13-degrees-Fahrenheit cooler at Ace Ice Company in Minneapolis, Minn.

An 'iceophone' (or ice xylophone) will be one of the key instruments in the ice concert. To create a lower pitch, the musicians make the piece of ice thinner.

Ice drums. Ice horns. An iceophone. These are just some of the instruments Norwegian musician Terje Isungset will bring to the Cedar Cultural Center stage tonight. Reporter Nikki Tundel captured the makings of an ice concert.

The ice used to make the instruments comes from Twin Cities lakes. “Artificial ice doesn’t work,” says musician Terje Isungset. “We don’t know why. It just doesn’t resonate like ice from a lake.”
